Modeling Preferences
نویسنده
چکیده
Modern economic theory developed under the assumption that only two basic facts are needed concerning human preferences. The first is that agents have consistent preferences that permit modeling choice as the result of the maximization of a preference function subject to appropriate material and informational constraints. The second is that economic agents are self-interested in the sense that the sole criteria relevant to an agent in evaluating an economic transaction is the effect of the transaction on his personal holdings. The core of modern economic theory can be derived from these minimal assumptions (Mas-Colell, Whinston and Green 1995). Empirical evidence has brought both of these assumptions under attack in recent years. The psychological experiments of Daniel Kahneman, Amos Tversky, and others (Kahneman, Slovic and Tversky 1982, Kahneman and Tversky 2000) have shown that human preferences deviate in a systematic fashion from the axioms deployed in neoclassical models of individual choice. Economic experiments beginning with Güth, Schmittberger and Schwarz (1982) have shown that the selfinterest assumption does not generally hold when agents interact strategically. These experimental results must alter the way economists treat the relationship between theory and evidence. We require a behavioral economic theory, firmly based on the interplay between model-building and testing. Since economic choice appears to depend on factors traditionally studied outside economics, behavioral theorists will doubtless explore the models and empirical findings produced in other behavioral disciplines, including biology, anthropology, psychology, and sociology. The challenge is how to deepen the explanatory force ∗Herbert Gintis ([email protected],http://www-unix.oit.umass.edu/g̃intis) is on the faculty of the Santa Fe Institute and the Central European University. Presenting a Model for Female Customers Behavioral Preferences in selecting Banks based on Grounded Theory Method and Structural Equation Modeling (Case Study: Iran’s Banking Industry)
The customers ’preference is derived from reflection on a product or special commercial brand, and factors such as positive appraisal of a brand performance and holding advantages and being unique, establishes the preference. This study aimed to develop a model of female customers' preferences in selecting banks and to train senior managers and banking staff. It had an applied objective, adopte...
متن کاملMaximizing the nurses’ preferences in nurse scheduling problem: mathematical modeling and a meta-heuristic algorithm
The nurse scheduling problem (NSP) has received a great amount of attention in recent years. In the NSP, the goal is to assign shifts to the nurses in order to satisfy the hospital’s demand during the planning horizon by considering different objective functions. In this research, we focus on maximizing the nurses’ preferences for working shifts and weekends off by considering several important...

With the expansion of social networks, the use of recommender systems in these networks has attracted considerable attention. Recommender systems have become an important tool for alleviating the information that overload problem of users by providing personalized recommendations to a user who might like based on past preferences or observed behavior about one or various items. In these systems...
متن کاملImproving the Information Retrieval System through Effective Evaluation of Web Page in Client Side Analysis
To improve the information retrieval system for user, programmers have to learn a user's preferences accurately. In order to optimize retrieval accuracy, modeling the users appropriately based on their preferences and personalizing search according to each individual user are important. Implicit feedback information improves the user modeling process. The advantage of implicit modeling is effec...
متن کاملDecision Preferences, Constraints, and Evaluation Objectives in Layout Design: A Review of Modeling Techniques
The layout design is a ubiquitous problem in engineering and design that is intrinsically knowledge-intensive, complex, vague, ill-comprehended and ill-structured. Inadequate information processing capabilities in tandem with various subjective user preferences, design constraints, and fitness objectives often hamper the acquisition of a superior solution. Consequently, the incorporation of sub...
